Teaching a person to fish is better advice than just giving a person a fish

The Hebrew scriptures talk about people selling themselves into slavery if they are poor but the Greek New Testament touts giving away all your belongs to the poor but the advice about teaching a person to take care of themselves (how to fish) by mentoring them is much better advice.
