Three management tips for reactive dogs

.

Be an advocate for your dog and their space! Give yourself room and your dog room either by crossing the street or going around as I did in the video. Dolores also has a collar on that says+
“Training I need space” and keep moving! Dont stop and allow your dog to fixate on a trigger.
Get ahead of the explosion and mitigate it. It is a lot easier to put out a fuse than deal with the aftermath of a bomb. I do not use food for this! For a variety of reasons and I can tell you with this particular dog, food will not work.
Be confident. Your dog is looking to you for guidance. There is a huge burden on their shoulders to be on the lookout for anything that could be bad. Relieve them of that burden and lead them confidently through the world. No baby talk. If you were legitimately frightened of something and someone spoke to you in that way would that instill confidence going forward? Probably not.
What are some ways you mitigate your dog’s reactivity?
