Syringe Feeding Your Rabbit | Unwell Bunny | Petcare | Rabbit Awareness Week | Pets | RecoveryPlus
It can be normal for your rabbit to lose their appetite after surgery, but if a number of hours pass without food or any poo, speak to your vet to see if you should start syringe feeding.
Our Science Selective Recovery Plus is rich in natural forage and herbs. It’s super tasty, helping to stimulate appetite and support recovery.
It also contains:
• Echinacea to support the immune system
• Prebiotics to promote the growth of beneficial bacteria and to support digestive health
• Probiotics to provide beneficial bacteria to boost digestive health
• Vitamin C to provide for additional requirements in stressful situations
• Chamomile to provide support during times of stress
As stressful as syringe feeding can be, it’s always important to remain as calm and patient as you can and make sure you are fully prepared too.
To use our recovery plus, simply mix one sachet with 90ml of warm water, then add to the syringe supplied. Before you attempt to syringe feed your rabbit make sure you have everything set up ready and within reach.
There isn’t a one-way that suits all rabbits when it comes to syringe feeding. Some will happily sit there while you pop the syringe into the side of their mouth (as our Exotic Veterinary Nurse – Craig Tessyman demonstrates), while others may need to be wrapped in a towel or you may need someone else to help hold your rabbit while you syringe feed.
We have lots of helpful tips for syringe feeding over on our website, link in our bio.
If you are struggling with syringe feeding you may want to try our Science Selective Recovery Plus ‘nuggets’. Just add a little less warm water than usual to our Recovery Plus, mould it into a small nugget shape, and then offer it to your rabbit to encourage them to eat.
If you are worried about your rabbit’s appetite after their neuter, always contact your vet immediately for advice.
