How To Check Your Rabbit's Teeth | Pet Health Advice
Learn how to check your rabbits’ teeth!
PDSA Vet Fran demonstrates how to check your rabbits’ teeth in three simple steps to ensure your furry friend’s teeth are healthy.
Step 1 – Check their front teeth
Gently hold your rabbit and lift their lips to check their incisors (front teeth). You should see two teeth at the top, which sit just in front of two at the bottom. They should be white, smooth and growing straight.
Step 2 – Check their gums
Your rabbits’ gums should be salmon pink in colour and there shouldn’t be any redness or sores.
Step 3 – Check their back teeth
You won’t be able to see your rabbits’ back teeth, so instead, gently feel their cheeks and lower jaw on the outside, checking for lumps, heat, or signs of pain. Dental disease is common in rabbits, so checking their teeth regularly is important to ensure you spot any problems early.
