Dog with megaesophagus gets help at Helen Woodward Animal Center

Dino was 11 months-old when he first arrived at the Center.

This sweet Shepherd blend was suffering from a medical disorder which left him unable to swallow or keep down his food. Our medical team did X-rays and diagnosied Dino with megaesophagus, which can be life-threatening.

A labor of love, at every mealtime Dino would be placed upright along a counter to eat. Dino required the time and patience of someone to hold him upright for about 20 minutes to ensure he digested his food.

Lucky for Dino, the Center’s knowledgeable and caring staff purchased a custom-made Bailey chair designed to keep dogs like Dino eating in an upright position!

In the months to come, Dino made huge strides thanks to the Center’s expert care along with lots of treats and encouragement. When the day came that he was prepared to go up for adoption, it did not take long for a couple to see his photo on the Center’s website and fall in love.

His adopters were able to take him home along with his Bailey chair, and offered the time and willingness to keep up his routine, and in return, he brought them unconditional love.

Devotion to pets like Dino is at the core of the Center’s mission of “people helping animals and animals helping people.”

When you give during the HOPE Telethon, you are giving pets like Dino a chance to live the happy and full life they deserve!
