The science of algae.

The lake they talk about in the video is Lake Balaton and is a very shallow Lake and is typically a nutrient poor Lake. This lake in Hungary is also especially poor in phosphorus. This is a factor that typically limits the growth of algae. Algae needs nutrients to grow and that is something that is universal independent of size of the Ecosystem.

“However, there are some cases when dissolved oxygen concentrations decline so low, which causes problems in the form of phosphorus release from the settlement in Lake Balaton, which causes heavy eutrophication in the lake. Eutrophication is the case when primary producer organisms like algae can grow with the supply of inorganic nutrients in the water column. However, algae blooms is not completely equal to eutrophication, there are several forms of eutrophication.
