Fish Care Tips

Silver Dollar Fish Growth Rate, Size, & Food

Silver Dollar fish growth and size will depend on water quality and nutrition. This Food will get your silver dollar fish to grow like crazy. It’s dried brine shrimp cubes with a lot of protein. I promise you that your fish will love it.

Aquarium silver dollar fish do grow pretty slowly sometimes. But a good quality food will really help.

More topics: I was going to say something similar. You could show them how happy and beautiful yours are – they’re pretty impressionable around 4 from my experience with my niece and nephews. Maybe you can (politely) help them understand the importance of properly caring for their pets, as fellow living creatures, since that seems to be an issue that won’t be addressed between them and their mother.

Silver Dollar Fish Care (Simplified)

It’s sad but you cant win every battle. Just hope the fish die soon and she gives up. How old are the kids? If you can get them into the hobby you may have a small chance of having the kids pressure her into a better set up for them.

That was me yesterday at petco, wishing all the sick betta would die or get bought bu someone that was willing to care for them. She could even get three (or however many) 10 gallons at Petco for cheaper than she paid for those crappy tanks. Then that’s a good thing lol they need to make the small not good tanks over expansive and the big ones cheaper so people will buy them instead for their fish.

I feel like you can’t really tell people to go buy something. I would buy it or donate an old tank and tell her you’re trying to clear up some space or something. The more aggressive you are about something, the more defensive people are. Especially when you’re implying you know more than them.

I have one emptied 10 gallon I could give her. I could probably set her fish up with 2 divided 10 gallons for like $20 total. Idk if I should though, she might just turn around and sell it all. You need to teach the kids what’s right. If you tell the kids having them in those tiny tanks makes them unhappy like a dog being chained up outside, they will want better for them, like most kids would. They will complain to mom and hopefully that’ll go somewhere. My problem is they will grow up to be the people that say “well I have had bettas in tiny tanks that lived for years as a kid”

Silver dollar fish aquariums are awesome. I always tell people to stick with silk and live plants, because anything else is a risk for causing injury. Also, a heater and filter is greatly appreciated!!

I would make all of your tanks big and beautiful and rub it in her face how well they’re all doing living how they should and brag about how much u enjoy the hobby and just make her feel like a big idiot. I hate those one upper people. Would showing her these comments help at all??? Maybe she’ll see how much we’re concerned or how disappointed all these people are and she’ll change her mind?

I bought one of these without checking the measurements a couple of years ago oops!
I understand you feel very passionate about fish, Realistically- you can offer advice to her about the bettas. Maybe explain that you can buy a bigger tank and divide it as oppose to several different tanks- but it is up to her whether she takes your advice or not. You can’t force someone to buy bigger tanks if that’s not what they want- maybe offer to buy them for her as gifts.

Kind of off topic, but is a snail something necessary with fish? Just curious. I do not have a Betta, but someday I want to get one. I mean you don’t /need/snails, but they just help clean the tank. And you also have to know which snail to get otherwise you’ll end up with 100 dead snails after only buying one so I never personally recommend snails unless you know your snails.

I don’t really think showing her how awesome your setups are will do anything to make her want to one up you… she already went and bought more fish for her kids than you have, yet put them in significantly smaller tanks as well. So I don’t see why she would care to try to make her actual tanks nicer than yours if you keep showing her how great yours are doing or huge tanks you’re looking to get…

That’s pretty much what ended up happening so I’m torn on whether or not I should even bother spending the $20 to get the fish new set ups. I have almost everything to get them 2 divided 3 ways 10 gallons but idk if she would use them or just sell them.

I’m sorry I’m in a similar situation. I’m currently fish sitting for a friend who doesn’t take care of her fish. She even has an empty 20 gallon in her garage but she just doesn’t “want to deal with it” so instead the fish is in a two gallon and gets water changes only every two weeks or so, and is grossly over fed.
