Most of the equipment for saltwater aquaria is designed as additional items to make like a bit easier but it’s not mandatory.
Learning how the reef aquarium environment works is much more useful than a skimmer or U.V. The most important piece of equipment for keeping saltwater fish is knowledge. Do your research and it won’t be expensive to keep marine fish and corals!
