Visit us on Facebook:

Dr Loh demonstrates a few safe and easy ways to start a water siphon (syphon) when performing water changes in your aquarium. In these ways, you can avoid catching zoonotic diseases (ones humans could catch from animals). Some examples include Aeromonas, Vibrio, Edwardsiela tarda, Pasteurella, Pseudomonas, Streptococcus, Mycobacterium, Nocardia, Erysipelothrix rhusiopathiae, and Cryptosporodia. It rarely occurs, but we still need to take precautions, especially if you have cuts/sores on your hands/arms, or are immunocompromised. Avoid handling sick fish and water they are in, without protective equipment. See also, this paper about diseases you can catch from Doctor fish (Garra rufa) pedicures –
