How can we prevent iodine deficiency and make sure we get a healthy iodine intake? That’s what I’ll be answering for you in this complete guide to iodine, your “one-stop-shop” for all you need to know about iodine and health.

Iodine is a bit of a forgotten nutrient, it doesn’t get a lot of attention in the way say, protein, or iron do, but it’s really critical for our health that we get enough. So in this video I’m going to cut through all the noise and bring you a complete, evidence-based guide on getting the iodine you need to be healthy. Given the consequences of not getting enough, this is material I think you’ll be glad you listened to friend. I certainly learned a lot whilst researching this video that has made me take iodine a lot more seriously.

We’ll see what the body does with the iodine we consume, and how it’s transformed into hormones that are essential for growth and development. And troublingly, we’ll see the consequences of not getting enough, or even getting too much! Unfortunately, iodine deficiency is not as rare as we might expect, and the science strongly suggests that vegans may be more at risk of iodine deficiency than the general population.

We’ll dive into the data and look at the different ways iodine can make its way into our diet. As we’ll see, some sources are much better than others, both in terms of reliability and with respect to other health consequences of a food besides it’s iodine content. And we’ll look at the special cases of pregnancy, breastfeeding and infancy, where a reliable iodine intake is even more important than in adults.
