Platy Fish Tank Setup and Requirements
Platy Fish Tank Setup and Requirements. You should use an aquarium size of 10 gallons minimum with this fish. The water temperature for platy fish can range from 50° all the way to 78°F. You can feed them a general community flake food and they will do just fine. Take Meetze should include generic community tropical fish as long as you have the water temperature is correct with a heater involved.

Im embarrassed to admit it, but I need help. I’ve been in this hobby for over 20 years and I have never had this dilemma. My 36g community will not clear up. The water is foggy as heck and my fish are not happy.
I unfortunately only have test strips right now and the only thing slightly off is the water hardness. I have never had my water be foggy like this just because the water is little soft though. I have done water changes, tested every day, and done everything else I can think of. This has been going on for almost a month now and I’ve lost 3 fish already.
Potentially old tank syndrome. I suggest buying more new media replacing some but not much of the media inside the filter and also putting in live bacteria balls. Encourage plenty of fresh bacteria.
I actually just did that over the summer. This is it before the “renovation”. The fish were dying off dye to old age so I redid the tank and added different species.
My buddy had the same thing going on wiht bus 120 gallon tank I’m pretty sure he just added some of those like bubbler skimmers on either corner of his tank and it’s so clear now that I thought their was no water in it.
Aquarium salt is not safe for all types of shrimps. Freshwater shrimp do not need aquarium salt at all. However, most types of shrimps can tolerate aquarium salt in small doses. Nonetheless, increasing the salt concentration to high levels at once can affect their health and is not recommended. I’ve been keeping Platy fish with shrimp which is crazy.
I had a bad snail problem. Every morning I woke up to tiny snails all over my tank !! They never even grew it seemed. Just tiny snails everywhere and they were eating my plants. I don’t care what anyone says I watched them, especially my Val. Anyway I hated them. I tried everything including the cucumber, less food, traps. I got these 2 tiny yo yo loaches on sat afternoon. Monday morning when the lights came on not 1 snail on the glass or on my plants and they are babies. And there were literally millions.
My cichlids keep my snail population in check. I actually had to separate a couple adults into another tank to breed bc the cichlids have eaten a few of the adults. At this point as long as I have enough to keep the tank clean, I don’t mind breeding a food source.
Platy fish tank setup should be a 10 gallon aquarium minimum.
How long would you wait to add water/do a water change if you’re on city water and your water was off all day yesterday for you neighbors yard being dug up and new pipes laid? My water is still running a little muddy and still has air in somewhere in it.
Test the water. If it is simply impurities like dirt then it’s not really a problem. A good vacuuming of the tank 24 hours later should pull all that out of there. Do water changes a bit sparingly afterwards until the neighbourhood runs their water too. Feed 50% less.
So i had heart failure this morning. I have a 29 gal w 13 female endler guppies, albino corys, yoyos and some tetras. I went to feed them this morning and all the guppies had big white lips. I about died lol. When the stars left my eyes and i could actually see again, i saw the corys had laid eggs. All the guppies had eggs on their lips. What a relief.
take it back out, make sure the top unit is in the canister the right way, wipe the fittings down and push the fitting down into the top. dont force the lock down it should snap into place once you press it down enough. I have had a snail stuck in the valve inside the fittings before so just double check.
We are replacing parts attached to the hoses next WC, because our canister (same one) drips from one hose seal on the right hand side. I hate opening this thing it seals super tight and the vaseline is a lifesaver for helping me get the top on and off. When it comes to the lever I’ve not had an issue closing yet but glad you posted so I could read all the comments. Glad it all worked out.
