Platy Fish Care (Tank Mates, & Food)

Platy Fish Care (Tank Mates, & Food). This fish is great for community tanks and new beginner setups. The platy fish doesn’t have one aggressive bone in its body. Maybe some chasing at most but these fish do well in communities. They are quite small so watch them around larger fish that can fit them inside their mouth.

Food for them should consist of mainly tropical flakes and some meaty foods every once and a whille.

HELP!
My pregnant female platy has a white spot on her head- it doesn’t look like ich. Could this be a bite from an aggressive fish? Or (dreaded) columnaris? I recently introduced a female betta who seems to be doing very well with the group, but she was extremely stressed and on the edge of not making it when I got her.
Any ideas?

Sexing –

My platys had fry! grin emoticon I found two and quickly scooped ’em up. I doubt the other fry survived – I don’t make much effort admittedly but if I see them I will isolate and try to raise them. I’ve been waiting months for this.

There may be more hiding. They like to hide in the gravel..mine do. Then a month later I see a baby!

i have a 3 gallon set up with a 10 gallon-sized filter, some plastic plants, and some live plants as a quaruntine tank with one platy, but i really need to up grade to a 10 for my shrimp, would those things have enough bacteria built up to just put everything in the 10 gallon, or would it go through a mini cycle with an ammonia spike? new inhabitants would be a small colony of shrimp.

Somebody I know is selling this for $65. I was just wondering if it was worth it or what should I offer. Comes with the tank and filter system and what you see there. 3 albino frogs , 2 or 3 platy’s and a big gold fish.

How would a rainbow shark do in a planted 29 gallon with cories, tetras, platies, and dwarf neon rainbowfish?

I have a rainbow shark in a planted community 100gal and he’s the biggest bully of the tank. He thinks all the hiding spots are his. He will go from hiding spot to hiding spot evicting the other fish. He never hurts anyone but no doubt its annoying.

Not sure. I have no experience with them. And my rainbow shark becomes more grumpy and time goes on. He was peaceful for the first year. Id say bala shark but as I’m sure you know, a bala shark will outgrow that tank over time.

yeah, i love balas too, but i definitely dont have the money, tank, space, or time for them frown emoticon my boyfriend wants some kind of shark or whiskered catfish, how about a pygmy synodontis? I think they only get to 5 inches, but im not sure how they would do in the tank with the calm platies and tetras….

In general, red tail sharks are more trouble than rainbow sharks. Each need a minimum of a 55 gal and even then, it’s not to say they won’t be terrotorial aggressive towards other fish.

Bala sharks are much calmer but need to be in groups of 5+. Due

How about a pictus cat? I have one that I really like. Has the whiskers you’re looking for. Not sure if it would need a bigger tank than what you have though. They don’t get too big, but then again, I’ve never had to worry about size restrictions too much.

The tank is pretty heavily planted, so i would have to see if they would have enough room to move around, but ill definitely look at them! He also loves the peppered cories, so he might have to settle for those until one of us can get a big tank.

Corys would be a good choice for your tank size and stock smile emoticon get at least 6 though.. the more the better with them.

They would be ok for a little while in a 29 but they would become very terrotorial aggressive once they mature. So they would then need a larger tank.
