Piranha Aquarium Setup & Tank Care – Beginner?
Aquarium piranha fish tank setup and care is pretty easy. These are a misunderstood food in our industry though. They are not violent blood thirsty killers. I feed my piranhas Omega One brand cichlid pellets as a staple and then protein rich REAL food the other days. These pellets work good as a staple though.
My piranha tank aquarium setup care guide. Bid on this fish partly because i believed it had purple coloring and purple represents a cause close to my heart. After chatting with the seller I learned it was only a purple light shining on a black and white Betta. What do you guys think of this fish? Was hoping for a purple dumbo but this one caught my eye.
yikes! I got a HMPK from a breeder and I paid 77 including shipping and 2 free females. I got him from a US breeder though. Are you getting it imported?
I’m so confused. Is black and white super common? I dont want to pay that much for a fish that I could find anywhere, even though it is a beautiful fish. From my research it seems like true purple Bettas are pretty rare.
Its a personal opinion.
Personally you couldn’t sell me a $75 betta. Even with a tank. Lol… Is 75 worth it you? Because that’s all that matters. Be happy and confident with buying it personally i think if you have a connection with it . Go for it i would have payed anything to get my little guy.
I think you should keep searching for that purple you actually want and spend that much . That fish is beautiful but people pay far less. Have you checked out anywhere other than ebay? I have one very similar. His color changes based on the angle of the light. He shines gold, green and black. He’s changing color but still gorgeous.
Doing a fish-in cycle, because I impulse bought a very stressed out fish. He’s still in his cup, so I want to move him ASAP. Tank has been treated with Prime and Stability and has been running about 5 hours; I also used the gravel from an established tank (I was saving for something like this). Nitrites are 0, Ammonia looks to be closer to 0.25 and Nitrates look to be just below 5.0 (pictures of ammonia and nitrates in comments).
**ETA: How often should I test the water doing a fish-in cycle? Red belly piranhas in aquarium. test daily if can… every other day minimum during cycling. If have live plants move them over too as they are great ammonia buffers. I do have LOTS of live plants. I’ll make sure to move one tomorrow! But ammonia is okay to add the fish? Should I do a water change tomorrow in the AM? I’m still quite new to this.
do water changes as ammonia increases past 20ppm… but with addition of a few hardy growing plants you can see them processing that ammonia quickly. and allowing you to have less ammonia accumulation. With duckweed i am still cycling a tank thats three weeks old.. other plants as well and have yet to see ammonia. Its too good.
Okay! Going to go grab a good low light plants from my garden upstairs lol. I’m going to put him in soon though, because the ammonia build up in his cup will be worse than the trace of ammonia in the tank. You have the established tank that the gravel came from? The gravel from an established tank will not help very much. It would help if you got some of the media from the established tanks filter and put it in the filter in the new tank.
Unfortunately I don’t have the filter media otherwise that would have been my go-to. The best I could do was the gravel, since I know SOME of the bacteria is in the gravel, albeit not as good as the filter. If you have an indie LFS near you, many will give you some of their established filter media to help a tank cycle. Also no…I do have some being delivered this week though! I’ll be adding one (how many do you add, never though of that?) when they arrive.
So to respond to your actual statement lol…yes I do have a great LFS, I’ll stop by and get some filter media from them tomorrow — I didn’t even think of that! They call me the Betta Lady…so, we have a pretty good relationship lol piranhas are fun to keep in aquariums.
