Fish Care Tips

My New 20 Gallon Freshwater Aquarium

Hello, this is the first video of my new aquarium. It’s still cycling so the water is a bit cloudy yet! I’m doing frequent water changes and the little guys look pretty healthy because of it.

The fish are: 3 guppies, 1 betta, 1 pleco (not featured in this video – he was hiding), 3 neon tetra, 6 silvery tetra of some type, and what I think is a Rasbora that sneaked into the net at my LFS.

I’m waiting for the shop to get more neon tetra in so the little guys will have more company, although they seem to get along with the other tetras pretty well.

— Update February 14th, 2008 —

Well, things have changed in this tank considerably. I’ve fully converted to a planted tank, and changed the substrate. Unfortunately I lost the flowy finned fish due to a crazy strain of fin rot that came in with a new guppy that resisted treatment in my hospital tank.

However, the neon tetra are 11 strong now, the pleco has gone back to the shop and has been replaced with an albino cory, who is an amazingly cute fish. The single rasbora is now 8 strong, and very very happy πŸ™‚ I apologize strongly to my betta, who couldn’t be saved due to the heavy finrot infestation. This is a lesson to me in quarantining.

However, there is a single TINY guppy fry in the tank. No idea how he survived.. he must be a fighter. He’s 1cm long and around 1 – 1.5mm in girth. Cute cute little guy.

Another video is coming soon showing my new plant setup, my new (less jaggy) substrate, and a much more stable system overall. Thanks to everyone who’s looked at it so far!
