How To Start Your Fish Tank (110GAL Freshwater Fish Tank Setup)
This is a quick setup video of our 110 gallon acrylic tank. The steps we take are perfect for beginning any freshwater tank setup.
1) Start by placing and leveling your stand. After your tank is sitting on the stand, make sure you have enough room for the filter and plumbing parts (between the tank and the walls if there’s any).
2) Wash your substrate (bedrock) thoroughly especially if it is colored. This will help with water discoloration problems on the initial fill up as well as remove any small unwanted debris.
3) Place/plant your larger decoration and plants. Install your pump and fitting. I always like to keep my water intakes further away from plant so we don’t restrict water flow or damage the plants.
4) Fill your tank with PROPER water. Untreated tap water has the potential to kill EVERYTHING in your tank. It is ideal to use RO water and add a biological booster (BB). Test the PH of the water to make sure it’s appropriate for the fish (add “PH up” or “PH down if needed). Add fish. If you do not have access to RO water the next best thing is distilled and BB. Tap water is safe to use only after it has been treated with a stabilizer or neutralizer and then tested to ensure all levels (Chlorine, Copper, Iron Hardness, Alkalinity, Nitrite, Nitrate and Carbonate) are appropriate then add BB. Other live waters like ponds, lakes, streams and wells are a complete gamble. Most of the time those will produce life just fine with few problems. Always test because you never know what you’ll get.
