How to: Aquarium Heater Setup & Use



Learning how to use an aquarium heater is very simple. When finding your heater size, you will want 5 watts of power per 1 gallon of aquarium water. There is a huge selection of different aquarium heater types. First, mount your heater next to the flow source in your fish tank. The flow helps the heater work more efficiently. You can mount your heater up and down or side to side. Second, plug in your heater and set it to the temperature you desire.

Never allow your aquarium heater to be on out of the aquarium water or it will burn up. When your doing water changes unplug your fish tank heater. Most freshwater aquariums are kept at the general tropical temperature of 78-81 degrees Fahrenheit. Tropical fish need to be kept at this temperature range or they will get sick.
