Fish Care Tips

Giant Danio Fish Care Requirements

Aquarium Giant Danio fish care and tank setup. These fish are an awesome addition to larger tanks. Be careful with tank size because I’d hate to see these giant danios in too small of a tank. I talk about all basic parameters such as food, tank mates, water temperature, etc. These truly are perfect dither fish.

More Banter on Fish Tanks

I recently purchased a dirted tank with several guppy fish in it, I think it’s been up and going for several years. My question is I either want to redo it and keep it dirted or get rid of all the stuff on the bottom, it seems so messy to me every time I clean it or do a water change there’s just more dirt! Lol. I probably sound silly but I just have no idea what to do with this tank. Please help.

Nooo keep it omg. A mature bacterial biome is very valuable in a healthy tank. Just hover over the gravel when you change water – with a nice established tank like that, you may be overcleaning.

I’d probably scrap it and go with sand, if you have live plants switch over to root tabs. Same effect but much cleaner.

From your pic it’s technically “capped” but not very well. Removing it will mess your cycle a bit most likely, but you’ll have less a headache in the long run with cleanings and such if you switch it out. Or you could just cap it better if you don’t want to deal with removing it.

I would prefer to remove it because it just doesn’t seem clean enough. I notice some 9f the guppies with shredded tails, not sure if this is because of water quality or not. The previous owner just “topped it off” didn’t perform water changes, and I just can’t do that lol. There are a lot of snails and other life in there I don’t want to harm so I’m curious about transitioning. Idk if I should just take out every living thing I can find and put them in a bucket then dig the rest of the stuff out or what?

Remember, aquariums are an ecosystem. Clean isnt best. It sounds like this was a Walstad type tank, which doesnt require much if any maintenance.

The other thing to consider also is water conditions. I would test the water and make sure you can closely replicate the conditions
Often these type of tanks have quite a low PH and changing out the substrate and subsequent water changes can shock the fish.

Ok perfect ! If all tests good and filter is left alone go ahead and remove the dirt. If you scoop it out into a tote bin with some dechlorinated water in it you’ll be able to recover the snails

What I do is turn filter off. Remove all decor items and plants. Then let it settle for about an hour. Remove all the substrate and let settle, then vaccuum the crud out and add new substrate. Replant and decor and top up and turn filter back on.

If you do decide to clean it do it gradually as you can shock the fish as the water chemistry can be different afterwards, also you can lose alot of bacteria and have to restart cycle as well.

Aquarium giant danio care is easy.

I have the opportunity to upgrade my 65g to a 125g. It’s from my sister so we’re hoping to retain some of her fish but also add my fish. So I’m looking for advice/information on if there could be any potential issues with these fish all living in a 125g. TIA!!

(1) Red Shoulder Severum
(1) Red Spotted Severum
(1) Knife fish
(3) Rope fish
(3)Black Bar Silver Dollars
(6) Spotted Silver Dollars
(2) Tiger Stripe Silver Dollars
(2) Cuckoo catfish
Bunch of corys

You don’t say how mature the knifefish is or how big the cories will get but they may eventually become knifefish food. If anybody doubts that, check fishing for feral knifefish in Florida videos on utub.

Help! This is my fish. This picture was taken a few days ago. He was occasionally up side down, but when he wasn’t, he was swimming, eating, ect. Just fine. Woke up in the middle of the night and realized he was upside down and didn’t correct himself when I put my hand in the water like he has been doing. What’s up? Swim bladder? Is he going to make it? What do I do?

Hey guys! I have another question about the substrate. I’m reading about the benefits of sand vs gravel. I want some cory’s and I’m afraid the gravel could hurt them. But then some say plants and gas buildup are issues with sand. Please tell me what you think.
