Fish Care Tips

Flagtail Fish “Prochilodus” Care & Tank Mates

Flagtail Prochilodus Fish Aquarium Care is fairly simple. Tank Mates are fairly wide open because these fish don’t get very aggressive but they do grow large. I would feed them these pellets until they get super big.

Added fish tank talk:
Treat the tank by cranking the heat up to 86 degrees. Make sure to add surface agitation. Every couple of days do a good gravel vac. In a week or 2 your tank will be good to go. I had a betta worse thqn this live through it. Some plants may melt. If you don’t have heat tolerant plants then just take them out and float them in a jar for a few days.

Hi, don’t quarantine the fish, ich is in the tank already, no point in infecting 2 tanks.
Get an ich medication containing malachite green and follow the directions carefully.
I think most will say to use a half dose for loaches. Leave the lights off during treatment and continue treating for at least 5 days after the last visible spots are gone.

If you can find Proform-C that seems to be the best med for loaches with ick, we’ve had great success in my shop with it. Being scaleless meds are often very hard on loaches. quinine sulfate works well also but can be trickier and needs to be closely monitored. Heat and salt method listed above may be your least risky option though if you can’t find Proform-C. Also keep the tank dark while doing any Ick treatment. Ick is photosensitive.

Others said whole tank needs treatment. I think the product sold in UK market are not strong enough. I have few issues with worms not ICH and took ages to treat it. I read about ICH-X is good but never had to use it and is cost effective on large tanks. Esha also is good . Perhaps try both. It will take long time to clear whole tank as bacteria replicate fast and stick on surfaces and infect other fish. Sometimes it looks all is gone and it comes back again.

Everybody is saying remove him but think about it. If he has it then other fish in tank do too. I’d raise the temp of tank. More surface agitation. And do half recommend dose of ich meds in that tank. Follow all instructions for ich. Research more online.

I’ve treated my clowns before with ich with esha exit it’s biodegradable and it’s more sensitive for scaleless fish you don’t need to turn the heat up with it just treat for 3 days do a water change then another 3 days dose, iv never had to half dose either iv had brilliant results with this and never lost a clown loach to ich using that medication, the whole tank will need treating, that clown is able to be saved with the right meds even though it looks bad.

But goldfish will get stressed horribly with high temps. If they aren’t sick now the stress will hurt them and make them vulnerable. Ned the tank then do a water change vacuum the substrate well. Treat the tank again and vacuum again. 3 rounds spread out over the week should help.
