Fish Care Tips
Cheap Marine Tank Setup | Convert your Freshwater Tank to Salt
In this video, I show you how to set up a cheap marine aquarium by converting your freshwater tank to salt. You convert to saltwater by using your freshwater gear and filter. It’s suitable for fish with live rock only. While not suitable for corals, but it will work for your first step into the hobby. I suggest thinking of this tank as a test to see if you enjoy saltwater before you spend the big bucks on your real tank. In the long run, what you build in this video is a suitable QT tank. I operate with the assumption that you have freshwater experience and freshwater gear. By using gear you already have, you can keep the cost of your first saltwater tank under $100.
To keep it under $100, I’m operating with the assumption you have a tank, filter, heater, air pump, light, and experience with freshwater. The rest can be purchased for around $85 leaving $15 for your first fish.
Here’s your shopping list. (No paid promotion and I have not personally tried all these products. I selected them because of their price. Be sure to do your own research and get the gear that is best for you.)
Protein Skimmer $17
Powerhead $15
Instant Ocean Salt Mix $11
Hydrometer $12
Live Sand $16
