Beautiful female “Elephant Ear” Betta Fish.????

Service! I never realized how man different breeds of Betta Fish actually exist. This particular breed that you see here is known as an “Elephant Ear” Betta. These type of fish have unique looking pectoral fins that closely resemble elephant ears. The Betta you see here happens to be a beautiful female fish! Female bettas normally have smaller fins compared to the males
and they are known to be slightly smaller and slimmer in size. An easy way to tell the difference between a male and a female betta is to see if you can find the “egg spot”. Unlike the males, the females have an egg spot marking on the underside of their body between their fins and tail. This spot can be seen as a protruding,
white mark that resembles a small grain of salt. This spot is where her eggs are laid from.

The male betta fish can be extremely aggressive and territorial, especially if they see other bettas, so it’s much safer if the males are kept separated. But interestingly enough, the female betta can be kept in the same tank and live peacefully with other females
bettas. The coined term for this is A Female Betta Sorority. If you plan on hosting lots of ladies you’ll need to make sure you’re using at least a 20 gallon fish tank. Female bettas love having plenty of places to hide and explore, so feel free to add lots of decorations
and make special hiding spots for them inside the tank.

If your bettas feel stressed or threatened they can become aggressive towards the other fish that live inside the tank. It’s best to stick to the 1-inch-per-1-gallon rule, which means that every extra inch of fish needs another gallon of water in the tank. This prevents
