More on Fish Tanks.

I had 3 pregnant fish and had about 50 fry. I’ve just given away about 20 of them. Waiting on someone coming to collect more. I’ve been changing about 20% of the water every few days to try and help. Ill look at the video you posted and will buy some ammonia test strips.

Hey, I have a quick question. I just realized that the pet store gave me two female fish in a tank full of male fish. I’m new to fish so I have no idea how to tell but are these fish pregnant or just fat?? I’m super worried about having babies as I’m in no way prepared for that so I’m just wondering if it’s the case.

They are pregnant most of their lives when kept with a male and can hold sperm for months, if you don’t want babies just don’t save any and if any survive just take them to the pet store hope this helps.

Does anyone have any idea why my fish is violently twitching? Sheโ€™s been doing this since last night. Occasionally sheโ€™ll get up and swim normally but mainly sheโ€™s just doing what she did in the video.

My Mini was born in my tank. She’s around 10 months old now. Is this labouring behaviour or is she ill? I currently have 2 batches of fry but have never spotted the birth, they’ve just suddenly appeared. I’ve separated the males out this week, the first batch of fry are now around 4 months old so have been able to tell the genders. The second batch we only spotted about a week ago and are too small to tell just yet. Really hoping Mini isn’t ill. She’s been hiding, spending more time near the heater and has her tail end lifted quite a lot. Her opening near the anal fin seems quite open as well.

This depends on how much tank space you have honestly. If you’re okay with natural selection, leave them in and the weak ones will get eaten. If you want a ton of babies, you can put them in breeding boxes or their own tank and most should survive. Just depends honestly on what you can do for them. My plan is to net whatever babies I can then give them to the LFS.

Hi, this fish has a damaged swim bladder for a while, now it’s starting to swim this way, it’s not mine, it’s my grandmother’s and she just waits for them to die to get them out. I’m just worried that it has some kind of parasites, if so, could you tell me? To remove it from the aquarium asap?

I would remove him and put him in another tank. If you donโ€™t have a tank. Put him in a large jar with this tanks water. Add about a teaspoon of aquarium salt and watch him closely. See if anything changes in a few hours.

Also this will continue with all the other fish prolly sooner rather than later. You have way too many fish, no or barely any real plants and a wimpy hob filter that barely gets rid of any waste. Next to that those artificial color injected fish are usually in the best case far from healthy if not downright suffering from the petstore. Best is to check the water parameters and address that and prevent trouble.

But the aquarium belongs to my grandmother and she is aware that the fish need more space, she does not want to buy a bigger one just because this has curved corners. It is also difficult to tell her that her fish are neglected because she does not like to be contradicted, the only thing I can do is help the sick fish that she has there.

Anacharis plants are super easy to care for in your aquarium.

I think that you have a few sick black tetras.
I’d do a good water change. Aquarium salt, one teaspoon per three gallons. Also, if you can naturally get the pH down, that would be good. The water parameters need to be pristine.

Don’t clean your filter, because that’s where your beneficial bacteria is growing. I always have two filters and only clean one at a time and clean the other filter a week or two later that way I always have beneficial bacteria growing in at least one of my filters. A sponge filter makes a nice secondary filter.
