What an eye looks like when removed from a dog. Enucleation is for patient comfort #shorts

Enucleation was performed in this patient after glaucoma resulted in vision loss and we were no longer able to control the eye’s intraocular pressure with medications. When the pressure is consistently over 40 mm Hg the animal is in pain and the eye needed to be removed. This dog is a husky with hereditary cataracts that were removed several years ago. Glaucoma is a risk whenever an animal has cataracts, but that risk decreases with surgery. This dog’s remaining eye is visual and comfortable.
