Stop Doing This When You Meet Dogs….
… holding the hand out to sniff with a dog you don’t know can be seen as you trying to reach out to touch the dog. It can lead them to back away or worse snap at your hand.
What you should be doing is first ASK THE OWNER before any interaction.
Next let the dog SNIFF you and DO NOT TOUCH or SPEAK to the dog in any way whilst it’s sniffing. If it finishes and walks away you know the dog ain’t into you. If it sits next to you, it’s more likely to want a bit of attention.
REMEMBER ! You may have owned dogs, you might be good with dogs but if the owner says NO, they are saying it for a reason, don’t suddenly ignore them and do what’s best for yiu, listen to the owner so she can do what’s best for her dog.
