Pet Parent Surprises Dr. Dan with a New Bull Dog! Bull Dog Advice.
Hi Everyone!
My name is Dan, and I am a veterinarian. Today I have a little fun talking about Bull Dogs. I love BullDogs, but if you are going to get one, I wanted to talk about some of their medical conditions.
Eye issues with the bulldog are very common. Bulldogs can have entropion. Entropion is when the eyelid rolls inward causing irritation and pain on the cornea. A bulldog can also have a cherry eye. This is when the gland of the their eyelid rolls outward. A bulldog cherry eye can swell up and get inflamed and not produce tears as well if it prolapses in this way. Last is KCS or dry eye in the dog. Dry eye is when the bulldog does not produce enough tears and the eye gets dry.
Skin issues are also very common. Skin issues in the dog include tail pocket infections, nasal fold dermatitis, dermatitis in general, interdigital cysts, and chronic ear infection. Some bull dogs have no skin infections, but a lot of them have skin issues.
Last but not least is the brachiocephalic syndrome. This is one that almost everyone knows about. It makes it hard for the dog to breath conformability. The brachiocephalic syndrome usually includes narrow nostrils, long soft palpate, and a narrow trachea.
These are of course not all the medical problems that a bull dog can have, but they are some of the most common.
Thanks for watching everyone!
