Mahabharata also mentions how a dog’s mother cursed as her child was shunned away by Raja Janmejay’s brothers during a Yajna. Yamraj’s 2 loyal dogs – Shyam and Sabal with two pairs of eyes are mentioned too. Kalbhairav’s dog and also Lord Datadreya’s 4 dogs symbolising the 4 Veds are talked about.
