ABOUT MAINE COONS:
DO you guys LOVE LILLY THE HUGE WHITE Maine Coon IM Showing you!! JUST INCREDIBLE! Maine Coon cats are the largest cat breed in the world. The tallest Maine Coon on record is Stewie who was 4 ft tall! Not all Maine Coons are giant, the average weight for a female is 9 to 15 pounds and 13 to 18 pounds for males. And the Heaviest Maine Coon on record is Ludo weighing in at 34 pounds. Haha That’s bigger than one of my dogs!

The Maine Coon cat is one of the oldest native cat breeds in North America, and there are many theories on how this breed came about.

Possibly by breeding domestic shorthaired cats with exotic long haired cats brought over from American Sailors like the medium sized Turkish Angora and the larger Norwegian Forest cats, which are big and sturdy but still alittle smaller than the Maine coon who came over with the Vikings. Anyways, by 1985 the state of Maine named the Maine Coon cat its official state cat.

The Maine coon was originally used as an outdoor working cat breed used to keep barns and homes clear of Rodents. They are a strong solid and rugged cat that can endure cold and harsh New England climates.

So It’s no surprise the Majestic Maine Coon is ranked by the Cat Fanciers association to be in the top 5 most popular cat breeds to own since the 1990s!

And this is because of their giant lion appearance as well as their personalities which are playful, sweet, friendly and calm demenor with family, friends and children. Most people that own Maine Coons will say they are very smart and have Dog Like personalities.

Maine Coon cats are noticeable by their distinct head that is square and ears that are large, well-tufted, wide at the base, and tapering to appear very pointed. Their legs are to be strong with large paws that are also well-tufted.

They’re eye color is to be shades of green, gold or copper. White Maine coon cats may have blue or odd eye colors. And their coat colors come in almost every color besides colors showing more breed hybridization such as chocolate, lavender, or Himalayan patterns.

Since Maine Coons are Large cats, you will want to have the living space for them! And Caring for your Maine Coon will involve grooming!

You will need to brush these cats two to three times a week to prevent hair from matting. Severe matting leads to skin infections under the matts and is uncomfortable for your cat. Maine Coons also tend to need Sanitary hair clipping done on their backside, since they have super long hair poop tends to get stuck in their tail and hind leg fur. I recommend having your Maine Coon groomed every 3 months professionally or by you to make sure they stay clean and comfortable.

Feeding your Maine Coon is different than other cats. They are a large breed cat so they will require nutrient dense food.

This means making sure to feed them a kitten formulated diet with higher calories for a longer period of time like up to 1 year while they are developing. And since Maine coons may not even fully Mature until they are 3 to 5 years old it is important to monitor their weight to make sure they are gaining weight properly and not becoming too thin.

There are many good diets for cats available and not one is better than the other, so I simply recommend you take your Maine Coon cat to the veterinarian every month while they are a kitten until about 6 months old and then yearly to make sure they are healthy and doing well.

You also don’t want them to get too fat either! Because the Maine coon is prone to hip dysplasia just like our large breed dogs are.

Their lifespan is known to be around 13 to 14 years old.
