So, I have a small cattery where I breed my Ragdoll cats. Here is Stanley and he was imported from Russia in 2017. And here is Gemma who simply came from Fort Lauderdale.Ragdolls are a friendly cat breed, but Im not going to get into that in this video!
Im just going to explain the Howling! And OMG do they Howl.
Its 2023 now and I actually, just had my friend come visit for my bachelorette trip and she slept over and Stanley hasn’t been howling in a while, and for some reason he decided to howl all night. HA my friend is a Vet too and in the morning making coffee she simply laughed and was like “I don’t know how you do it!”
❓SO WHY DO CATS HOWL:
1. So the main reason intact cats howl is to attract each other. Males howl to attract females and females howl to attract males. They are singing a song to get each others attention and letting them know they want to mate.
Females will mostly holw when they are in heat. So it doesn’t happen all the time for them. And intact Males in general Howl at basically everything..even you!
So you landed on this video and want to get your cat to stop howling, Spay and neuter them ASAP. Your intact cat will also try to escape the house to find cats to mate with, so if you don’t want them to run away, spay and neuter them too.
2. Another reason they howl is to call over other cats. If your indoor cat has an outdoor cat friend, you may find them howling at the window to attract their friend to come by. So you may want to get some blinds at night so they can’t see out the window, if they are fixed and still howling.
Cats are social creatures and do love company, So we can’t blame them for calling their friends over.
3. A third reason why cats howl, for even fixed cats, is if they have Hyperthyroidism. Increased thyroid hormone circulating in their blood stream makes them, hungry so they may be howling or meowing for more food and it makes them anxious or active and to blow off that steam they howl more.
4. Another reason a cat may be howling might be if they are in pain for many different things. However, this painful howl might be different and may have a more whinning tone than the classic behavioral howl.
