There may be 60 to 100 million stray cats living outside in the US, so it is no surprise that you may have come across a litter of kittens!

If you find kittens that are dirty, thin, cold or injured then the mom is not taking care of them and you need to take them to a veterinarian or contact your local shelter for help.

The veterinarian will examine them for fleas and check a poop sample for worms and parasites and guide you if they need vaccinations.

If the kittens eyes are closed when you find them they are younger than 2 weeks and need to be bottle fed by you or a foster, if the mom doesn’t come back within 8 to 12 hours.

If they are together in a bunch the mom may come back and simply put them in a safe place, with shade for her to find them and a place you can check to see if she comes back within 12 hours. If she doesn’t you need to bottle feed them with kitten milk supplements, which a local shelter or veterinarian can teach you.

If the kittens look healthy and are old enough to walk around and eat food, or you see them nursing on their mom, then make a plan to trap them and get them spayed and neutered and you can release them back where you found them or your local shelter may help you adopt them to homes.

Comment below if you have found kittens before and any other advice from experience you may have that other people may need when finding kittens!
