Honeybun, an orange cat at Spicy Cats Rescue, has been a nurturing mother to various kittens through TNR efforts, demonstrating a calm demeanor according to the president of the rescue, Caroline.
Despite seemingly retiring from motherly duties, Honeybun takes on a unique challenge – caring for a 6-week-old bobcat kitten who was found orphaned and brought to Spicy Cats Rescue from Millstone Wildlife Center.
Concerned about the bobkitten’s need for social interaction without habituating it to humans, Frannie from Millstone Wildlife Center collaborates with Spicy Cats Rescue, selecting Honeybun as a surrogate mother due to her maternal experience.
When introduced, the bobkitten immediately connects with Honeybun, displaying affection through purrs, nose sniffs, face rubs, and ear nibbles. The pair quickly forms a bond, with the bobkitten embracing Honeybun.
Over a week, Honeybun patiently guides the bobkitten in learning typical cat behaviors, such as grooming and eating. The bobkitten’s loneliness disappears, replaced by contentment, playfulness, and shared moments of eating, sleeping, and snuggling with Honeybun.
