Caring For A Cat With Cystitis | Pet Health Advice
Cystitis is an inflammation of the bladder. In cats, it’s rarely caused by an infection and more commonly due to a condition called FIC (Feline Idiopathic Cystitis) – which is often brought on by stress:
In this video, PDSA Vet Fran explains how to care for your cat with cystitis:
Step 1 – Encourage them to drink more
Place several water bowls around your home, enough so your cat can always use one whenever they want to, and add water to their food.
Step 2 – Keep their litter trays clean
Litter trays should be kept clean and in various places around the house. Provide at least one litter tray per cat in your household.
Step 3 – Maintain their weight
Keep your cat slim and if your vet has recommended a specific bladder food, then stick to that.
Step 4 – Avoid stress
Give your cat plenty of hiding places up high, dedicate time to play with them every day, use calming pheromone sprays and diffusers and keep your home as relaxed as possible.
