This channel is for anyone, to show what goes on when taking care of puppies. Watch them grow and to see the challenges we encounter, while we learn how to take care of two Australian Shepherd puppies.
Puppies are a lot of work especially when I babysit my grand daughter. So, I am really taking care of 3 toddlers, and two of them have four legs. 🙂
What was I thinking? Well, what I had pictured in my mind, was not what is actuality, as far as how the pups would be, and how the pups would be with my grand daughter, Jaelie, and and how Jaelie would be with the pups.
I knew our older Pit bull dog would not really want them around, but I knew she would get used to them. The kitty, Oli is not ready for two new animals in his life, and we recently lost his sister of 12 years, but he is doing good!
We let the puppies see the Oli, here and there, but Jaelie, will go downstairs and let the dogs in, and they bark at the him and he hisses. Hopefully one day they can all get along!
These videos are not edited, so you can see how our life really is with puppies. It is definitely not all “sweetness and light” raising two puppies and babysitting a toddler, but that is what I put myself into, and I don’t regret it. It is challenging, but worth it! I wanted Jaelie to have puppies to grow up with and let her learn some responsibilities in taking care of them.
When we go on hikes, people ask why we would get two Australian Shepherd puppies at the same time and the same age. They know that these dogs are high energy and they think we are crazy, but that is what we wanted.
I am amazed at how any person we come across hiking how they stop and ask, “Are those Australian Shepherd’s?” we tell them, “Yes” and they are in awe of the puppies and love to interact with them and the puppies love to interact with people.
We had another dog, (it was actually my son’s, but he moved into an apartment) we took hiking and running, Her name was Nommi, Nomas was her nickname, and she got horrible cancer and died in Jan 2023. This broke our hearts. Even though she was not “mine” she was my life, I am the one that took care of her always, even when she was dying.
I kept telling Nomas, I would find her, because she was too young to die, (8 years old) and it just wasn’t fair that she got cancer that destroyed her life.
So I started looking for pups about a week after Nomas had passed. I looked at the classifieds everyday, looking at lots of different types of puppies. It was stressful and not an easy task, but it had to be right, and it had to feel right, so I was thrilled I found these puppies.
My guide was one puppy had to have blue eyes and be a female, because Nomas, had blue eyes and she was female, so yes, it was like finding a needle a a haystack, but I pursued and spent everyday looking for about 2 months.
I wanted names starting with the letter “N” because of our Nomas. I played around with letters and found Nauli and Naja and couldn’t decide which one, so I just named her Nauli Naja.
With Noki, we tried a few names like; Maverick, Niko, No No, and Jim, my other half, says, “Why don’t we just switch the “I” and the “O in Niko”? So that is how we got Noki. I call Noki, Nomas, just because that is who he is, but most people wouldn’t believe that I got my sweet dog, Nomas back in Noki, but it is her. 🙂
These puppies come from a breeder with over 10 years of breeding experience and live on a ranch where the puppies parents herd cattle and sheep and live with horses, so I was thrilled to have found her.
Did you know there are over 35,000 puppies for sale in the US? And puppies are not cheap and “doodles” seem to be the “it” dog nowadays…which I was so not interested in.
These videos are my journey with our new sweet puppies and how they grow and learn and play with, Jaelie and how she will learn responsibilities, that most kids will never get the opportunity to have.
