Family is found in the most unlikely places. Even in the wild, sometimes companionship spreads across decades and even species! After this baby hippo was swept away from his mother during the waves of a off the coast of Kenya, he thought he’d be alone forever. But hope was under him all along. Literally! The less than one-year-old hippo washed atop this 100 – year – old turtle’s back. This ancient reptile’s motherly instincts kicked in instantly, and she cared for and guided the 650-pound baby hippo as though it were her own. From then on , the pair did everything together. But this isn’t a one-sided relationship – the baby hippo, nicknamed Owen, is extremely protective of his shelled mother and will get aggressive with any animal that threatens her. Talk about a Mama’s boy!
