8 Tips For Building A Low Maintenance 55 Gallon Aquarium

Here are my 8 secrets for building a low maintenance, large planted aquarium as a beautiful home decoration:
Low maintenance: only 20 min every 2 weeks

1. I chose the largest tank I could use.: a fish tank is an ecosystem. Plants and fish help each other live. With a larger tank, it’s easier to achieve an ideal ecosystem, which means it’s low maintenance. For me, keeping a larger fish tank (around 55 gallons) is easier to maintain than a small fish tank and the fishes in a large tank also look happier as a result.
2. I chose a location with a water faucet nearby to use a direct aquarium maintenance system : You need to pick a place close to a bathroom and hot water should also be available. This allows me to change water and clean my fish tank directly from the water faucet using a direct aquarium maintenance system. Using hot water, I can instantly achieve 78 degrees, which is the optimal temperature for tropical fish. Using a water conditioner, I can instantly neutralize chlorine. Using a direct maintenance system, I can clean the tank while I am changing water. Regular maintenance takes only about 20 minutes every 2 weeks. It’s unbelievable!
3. I bought a complete aquarium kit: Setting up a fish tank might not be easy for a beginner. I bought a 55 gallon aquarium kit and it works great. So far, I only upgraded the heater to a submergible one for my 3D background.
4. I attached a premade 3D background: It allows you to build a nice, artistic fish tank. It makes your fish tank look special and unique to you.
5. I used gravel, not soil as an aquarium substrate: Gravel lasts longer and helps to easily maintain your fish tank. With this, I managed to get crystal clear water. Instead of soil, I chose to use a plant growth supplement to grow the underwater plants.
6. I planted the water plants: I strongly recommend to have live water plants, not fake ones. It makes your fish tank a real ecosystem, which makes your fish healthier, and your fish tank more beautiful.
7. I brought some animals to help clean my fish tank: I have the corys, which are bottom dwellers. The corys help to clean the bottom of my fish tank. I have the snails. Once I started to have snails in the aquarium, all the brown algae disappeared.
8. I consider my fish tank an art piece: Whenever I decorate and maintain my fish tank, I always try to consider the artistic aspect. Now that its complete, its a beautiful decoration piece in our living room.
