When selecting trees for planting, many inexperienced gardeners select the largest tree they can find, thinking the bigger the tree they start with, the faster the tree will grow and bear fruit (if the tree is a fruit tree). This can be a catastrophic mistake.

In addition, the location you plant a tree and how you prepare and maintain that location means everything when establishing a tree.
