What is the best way to keep reptiles in 2021? If you said Bioactive Enclosure Setups, you’d be right. In my opinion anyway, and in the view of many other reptile keepers the best way to keep your snake or lizard or even amphibian might just be in a bioactive enclosure! Personally I keep many species of reptiles inside of these natural looking and natural feeling enclosures complete with plants and isopods and springtails and all that goes along with keeping your reptile enclosure alive! Crested geckos might be the most common species to keep this way along with gargoyle geckos, chahoua geckos and even Leachianus geckos. These are the largest geckos in the world but have very similar care to their other New Caledonia gecko cousins. Another great species to keep bioactivly are spadefoot toads. These are one of the most underrated species ever to be kept in the herp hobby! These guys use spades on their feet to help them dig and burrow into the substrate. They will for sure eat your springtails and isopods so be sure to have a healthy group of them in there! Rhino Rat Snakes also make great inhabitants of bioactive enclosures! These slender intermediate level snakes are amazingly cool to look at, beautiful colubrids. Another great snake option for these living vivariums are garter snakes. Garter snakes and ribbon snakes will take full advantage of the enclosure, it’s plants and even water area if you provide. The enrichment of a Bio Active enclosure really can not be beat!
