Single Tail Gold Fish Care Guide | Tankmates | Breeding Temperature !!! Urdu and Hindi
Goldfish are extremely interactive large Cyprinid that is a completely domesticated species. Unfortunately, many are kept in bowls and small tanks which results in their untimely death.
Name: Carassius auratus or Common goldfish, comet, sarasa comet, shubunkin, feeder goldfish, single tail
Lifespan: 15-25 years
Adult Size: 8” (for smaller ones like Shubunkins) to 24” (for larger ones like comets)
Fresh or Salt Water: Fresh
Diet: Omnivores, feed them pelleted or gel based food. Always pre-soak any dry foods fed the goldfish to prevent swim bladder problems and aid in digestion. Gel foods are the best choice for goldies. They should be fed often, at least 3 times a day. Not large meals mind you, but small frequent ones. Dark leafy greens, frozen bloodworms, krill, peas and orange on occasion are also accepted as variation.
Aggression Level and Social Characteristics: Not aggressive, social fish. They should always be kept in pairs, preferably more. Keeping them with fancy goldfish can be an issue, since these guys are much better swimmers they may eat all the food or bully the slower fancies. Keeping them with other fish is not recommended, and in my opinion they should never be mixed with anything other than goldfish. However, some people have had success with fish like Weather Loaches and some species of minnows.
Maintenance Level: Hard. They are not sensitive fish, but they require very large aquariums with strong filtration, aeration, and specific decor. Water changes are done weekly and often over 40%. This makes them expensive to set up, space and time consuming. They are not good for anyone who is not willing to make a huge commitment fr a long time.
Tank Region: Middle, thought they graze on rocks and sift through substrate all day long.
Temperature range: 62-70F
pH range: Neutral to high, preferably at least a little on the high side. 7-8.0
gh/kh: Moderately hard, 12-18 dGH.
Reproductive Method and Breeding: Egg layers. They breed when they are 3-4 years old. Breeding must occur in a very large aquarium to avoid any water quality issues. 50 gallons or ponds are recommended. Provide things for the eggs to stick to like driftwood (Smooth). As always, ensure the tank is cycled. A 2 male to 1 female ratio is recommended. Feed the goldfish high quality foods, lots of fresh things like bloodworms and raise the temperature to 68F. These fish generally will spawn shortly after a water change, so do 25% water changes daily until spawning occurs. The male will begin chasing the female and she will release her eggs, during this time the male will fertilize them. As soon as the eggs are laid, remove them so the parents don’t eat them. Keep in mind that the female may lay eggs in batches so she may not be done in one go. Female can have anywhere between 500-1,000 eggs in one spawn.
Tank set up and minimum tank size: Pond keeping is strongly suggested, 100 gallons per goldfish with 50 gallons for every goldfish you add in the tank. Goldfish make a lot of waste for their size, and should never be put in a bowl. Because goldfish are a cold water species it is easier for them to absorb oxygen if an air stone is in the tank, so having one or two is a must. Air stones don’t actually put oxygen in the water, they agitate the surface which is a part of water oxygenation. A filter that creates a lot of surface agitation also works. Filters should also be for twice the volume of water the fish is in. So if they are in a 100 gallon tank they need a 200 gallon filter
