Before Euthanasia: palliative care for dogs and cats

Palliative care for dogs and cats is a serious thing to consider in a number of different situations. If your pet has an untreatable condition that will ultimately be fatal, if they have a condition that will result in a severely compromised quality of life despite not being fatal, or if they are old and just starting to decline in general.

Palliative care is all about maximizing your pets quality of life for the time they have left, before euthanasia needs to be seriously considered. It involves many aspects of pet caring, from managing any underlying disease to the best of our ability, controling pain, ensuring enough is eaten through to modifying your dog or cats environment to make their life as easy as possible.

Thinking about palliative care sooner will mean your pet not only has a better quality of life as they comes to the end of their life, but they will also have a longer life, allowing you to delay any euthanasia decision.
