Amazon Sword Plant Care for Beginners

Amazon Sword Plant Care Guide with my friend Kyle. The Aquarium Amazon Sword plant grower is pretty fast. These plants are heavy root feeders so try to give them a nutrient rich substrate. Amazon Sword plants grow fairly large so make sure your fish tank is adequate size. Talker fish aquariums wish better for growing this plant.

I’ve had a fish for a few months. It has grown substantially. I recently moved it into a larger tank that had sandy substrate. The water has become cloudy. The filter needed to be changed twice the first day. I’ve changed about 20% of the water daily but the water is still cloudy. What is the problem?

how long have you had the tank set up? Is it cycled? if its still cycling it could just be algae bloom. if it is it will go away after a while.

I transferred the water from the smaller tank into the larger tank. (2 1/2 gal into 5 gal) Then added filtered water to fill the new tank. The new tank had been used before by my son-in-law. At first I thought the fish was disturbing the substrate and raising small particles. I removed the substrate and replaced with new washed substrate.

How large is the tank? You’ll need at a minimum a 25 gallon tank for a fish this size… they can end up needing probably closer to 50-75 gallons before it’s done growing.

Your tank isn’t cycled and is cloudy for bacterial bloom likely. You’ll want a filter with a larger capacity than tank size.

Test the water parameters and check where your ammonia, nitrite, and nitrate levels are. That will determine how often and how much water to change until it is cycled.

This is a bacterial bloom. Your tank is trying to cycle, but it’s far too small with too big of a load on it to actually do so. Some fish get HUGE and have insanely massive bioloads, this tank is far too small for those reasons alone. Definitely take the advice about researching a fish in cycle and get a much, much larger tank for that poor baby(or give it to someone who will).

Hey buddy! I’d consider removing the fish as your tank will never be big enough for one. They poop a lot. That 5 gallon would be perfect for a Betta fish, or a few small ember tetras. What I do anytime I’m at the fish store thinking about buying a fish is googling “fish name care sheet”. Lots of great resources that tell you how big of a tank, tank mates, temp etc. You can get away with over stocking if you have over filtration and lots of plants, but you’ll never be able to filter the 5 gallon enough to rid it of the ammonia from the fish poop. Google “nitrogen cycle” as well to explain what people are talking about. My amazon sword plant is doing great.

Hey check your local fish stores. I’m sure someone will take it. Ember tetras are beautiful, three to four would be great in that tank. Betta fish are pretty active, but they can be mean. Careful with what you stock them with. For example I have a Betta and 4 to 5 Otto catfish in a 7.5 gallon, but he leaves them alone. I had to transfer another betta to my 20 Gallon long community tank since he was territorial. Good luck! You can learn anything online.

The tank is cloudy because the fish is dirty they give off so much ammonia reason why you need a big tank for big fish not to mention they can grow 12 inch up wards this fish is litally swimming in ammonia no matter how many water changed you dobthat tank won’t stay clean.

Your looking at needing at least a 55 gallon long term for your big fish. I have 4 in separate tanks and my largest are 8 inches .Unless its the picture your fancy is very thin on top so looks.like.its not being fed enough.

Big fish need large tanks with heavy duty filtration. I run the Fluval Fx range on all my tanks.

I’m.sure you want the best for your big fish.
If its not possible to get a larger tank .
Then consider a Betta fish for 5 gallons you will need a heater. But your fancy Goldfish could reach at least 9 inches in the right size tank. These fancy are in 65 gallons where the largest is 8 inches.

He is a beautiful fish and he looks very healthy. Like everyone else said, the tank is too small. The parameters will not be able to stabilize with that kind of bioload. I saw you were thinking of rehoming him, please do it soon before he gets sick.

Aquarium Amazon Sword plants are easy to care for. They are a fairly large plant in growth so make sure they have adequate space.

I collect a lot of wood. The boiling process helps remove a lot of tannins from the top layers of the wood but really we boil the wood to get it to water log faster. It’s such a pointless step I don’t do it anymore. I bake my wood at 200 for an hour to kill anything in there then I scrub em with a stiff brush and toss em in a tank usually takes about a month for a piece to sink. Boiling the wood is just a pain in the ass and doesn’t yield much benefits
