In most cases, cats train their humans more than the other way around. A 2009 study published in Current Biology found that cats use their meows and purrs to manipulate their owners to get what they want. Our feline pets know us better than we realize, and they will repeat behaviors that get them the response they were looking for. They have mastered the art of manipulation, convincing us when it’s time to play, cuddle, or eat.
