How to Train Your Parrot or Cockatoo | Ep.18: Training | Cockatude: Cockatoos with Attitude

Every once in a while someone loses their mind. Don chose to bring 10 birds into the “studio” and record Cockatude while talking about training. With three cameras going and a studio microphone set up like cell towers, it was an unusual session. Surprisingly, even with birds flying around the room like helicopters that lost their rear props, he does manage to pass on some helpful tips. Maybe just showing that it is possible to be in a room filled with cockatoos and still talk almost coherently for the better part of an hour is a lesson in itself. It was for him! There is a section in which he trains Roman to shake his finger on the cue “shake.” Let us know what you think of his choice to “raise the bar” and fill the room with birds!

About The Chloe Sanctuary:
Operated by Executive Director Don Scott, The Chloe Sanctuary for Parrots and Cockatoos is a 501(c) nonprofit charity dedicated to the empowerment of captive parrots and cockatoos, and public awareness. A permanent bird sanctuary, we rescue but do not rehome birds. Each parrot or cockatoo that comes to our bird sanctuary has a home for life. Bird rescue is a 24/7 job, except Don doesn’t pay himself a salary. Parrot rescue is challenging because a parrot or cockatoo does not belong in a domestic household. They are wild animals. Most people do not have the resources to take in a bird, but anyone can still help parrots in need by giving a like and subscribe to a parrot youtuber. By following our bird channel, you will learn about basic bird care and you will learn how to take care of a parrot. Bird care or parrot care is not like looking after a cat or dog, birds are not mammals and their needs are very different. Taking care of a bird can be a great joy in your life if you have the skills. The Chloe Sanctuary parrot channel will teach you about bird training and parrot training using Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA), reward training, positive reinforcement, and more. In our Cockatude Cockatoos with Attitude video series you will see our moluccan (seram), triton (sulfur-crested), and umbrella cockatoos. Each episode has a different topic. In some you will see a parrot playing and in some you will hear a cockatoo talking. In others we talk about avian vet care. A parrot talking is lots of fun but remember not all of them do it. Never buy a parrot expecting it to talk. And check out our friend April’s channel which is called Parrot Playhouse!
