Fish Care Tips

Dojo Loach Fish Care Guide

Dojo loach fish care and tank setup needs some research. Make sure to feed a food that sinks to the bottom for them.

More talk regarding fish tanks:
I just bought my betta yesterday because he looked pitiful in his Walmart cup. I had an old tank in the closet. I didnโ€™t get to cycle the water. I bought pre bottled fish water and thatโ€™s what he got. I got him a live plant today and a heater is on the way. Anyways. I was going to name him Wally, after Walmart. But i didnโ€™t think he should be named after the place that basically abuses fish and exploited him. So i named him Triton! Because heโ€™s going to need a strong name to get healthy.

i have eleven males, i’ll do them all in my comments. My oldest betta is Medic, he was named that because my first thought upon seeing his sickly self was “holy shit, you need a medic, fast!”

I named my first betta Aqua, because that was the first thing that came to my mind. My brother named my second betta Echo, after a starwars stormtrooper and also because the colours in Echo’s tail kinda “echoed”. And I named my third betta Billie EiFish after my favorite singer Billie Eilish.

I named King my blue crowntail/combtail (not sure) because of his tail type . Jase my red veil because I wanted to name him Ace but also Jake and Kase so I named him Jase a mix of all names. And then there’s Alien my Halfmoon (not sure about that ,he might be a roundtail) who is just plain weird.

Yes. My first betta is Rylinn. I liked Rylee but he was fancy so I made up Rylinn because I wanted unique and sorta feminine/gender neutral. Then my second betta name morphed from a song title. I listen to Regina Spektor and she has a song called Do not leave me (ne me quitte pas) and I loved how she sang the french phrase that means do not leave me. I smooshed it into Nemequittepas (neh-meh-keyta-pah) and then started saying Nemi. And so he became Nemi, it just stuck.

Like, I intended on something fancy, but no… And then my most recent betta… So, I watched The Four and Zhavia just gave off this sick vibe. Loved the vibe, sound, dreads, and name. Her new music is great. Anyway, tried to spin the name, make it fancy and gender neutral (No idea why, I think because I like balance with being male but being fancy) and came up with Zhavonni.

Blue has his name because even though he’s a red fish he has one blue fin. Noble got his name because he reminds me so much of my first betta who was named Barnes (After Barnes and Noble the book store) And Moray…not really sure where his name came from.

Wild Betta is really a misnomer, as they’re only really wild caught if you buy them from shops that specialise in wild caught ones. Wild Betta really refers to any Betta that isn’t a Splendens (the bettas you normally find in pet stores).
Wild Bettas, such as the Imbellis, are often more peaceful, allowing multiple males to be kept at once, and easier care in community tanks. Some species are even mouthbrooders, like the Betta Macrostoma, which is known as the “Brunei Beauty”.

I’d recommend the Betta Imbellis, if you’re gonna explore the world of wild Bettas.
Wild Bettas can be more expensive, but they’re definitely worth the price, and offer unique personalities, body shapes, and colors.

Looking for an answer and some advice: The top of my tank water looked oily as crap 2 days ago, so I did a 75% water changed and wiped down all of his decor and the glass. I went to feed him tonight and the clear oily looking stuff is back! Not as bad as it was but still, it’s coming back. What could it be, what’s causing it and how do I fix this issue? Thanks in advance for any help and comments.

Probably biofilm. Easy way to remove it is to lay a piece of paper towel right onto the surface then lift up. Add some surface agitation and it will keep it from forming. Also feed a little less. So weird, I was going to post on here asking what it is too but instead found an article from a Google search and apparently can be caused by a number of things. Oil from your hands, oily food/poops, aerosols or cooking oils (from vapour) to name a few, I don’t think it’s a huge deal for Betta as they’re Labrynth fish but to other fish it could be a problem as not as much oxygen can enter the water with an oily water surface. I normally try to clear it up during water changes but I will try the paper towel tip. Thanks

My bettaโ€™s actually eat these when they newly hatch, they are bladder snails, they are fine with the fish and wonโ€™t hurt him, but they will reproduce at a crazy rate. Before you know it you will have hundreds. They lay a jelly like egg sack, so if you feel around decorations and plants you can feel them and just rub them off. The more excess food available the more the reproduce.
