A funny animal is an anthropomorphic animal character who lives and acts like a human.[citation needed] They speak a human language, and typically are bipedal, wear clothes, live in houses, drive and ride vehicles, and have jobs that humans have or may even be recognized citizens of countries. Funny animal (also talking animal) also refers to the genre of fiction in which such characters appear, in media such as illustrated children’s books, comics, and animated cartoons.[1][citation needed]

While many funny animal stories are light-hearted and humorous, with the funny characters often acting in a comedic and sometimes childish way, the genre also can also include dark or serious stories.
