Fish Care Tips

Hydra in your Fish Tank | Introduction, Removal, & More

Today I tell you about another aquarium pest known as hydra. I will be discussing how they could have gotten into your tank, their anatomy, where to find them, what they eat, how they eat, how they reproduce, and lastly, multiple approaches to remove them.

One removal method I did not mention is the heat method. While it should work, it involves you removing everything alive out of your tank and increasing your tank temp to around 40 degrees C. The reason I did not suggest this is, they can come in on live fish, so if one happens to be perched on a fish and you remove and replace it, you can put hydra right back in your tank. Also, its a ton of work and stress for your fish. So I left it out intentionally.

FAQS:

Q: How many fish tanks do I have?
A: Just one!

Q: Will I ever get a betta sorority/breed bettas?
A: Nope and nope! Both require a lot of work, money, and time to perfect- neither of which I’m willing or able to provide!

Q: How do you name your fish?
A: Sometimes I’m inspired by a character in a show or movie, or someone in real life like a celebrity. More often than not, however, I literally just choose whatever pops into my head- its like names I love but would never name my future children for whatever reason haha
