The redtail catfish, Phractocephalus hemioliopterus, is a pimelodid catfish. In Venezuela it is known as cajaro and in Brazil it is known as pirarara, stemming from the Tupi language words pirá and arara. It is the only extant species of the genus Phractocephalus.
