Pet Care is a pet awareness initiative by Harwinder Grewal. Who is a director of Bhola Shola Pet Services and Farm Private Limited. In his videos, you can get deep knowledge about pets in the Hindi Language. He also tells most of the hidden aspects of Dog Business and Pets Business.
Food – no matter what you can get. Be it biscuits, roti, rice mixed with dal or gravy, any left over food, chicken or mutton bones which you always throw out. If your pocket allows then you can give them boiled eggs too
Water – place a bowl or small bucket filled with water in front if your house so that they can quench their thirst whenever required but make sure to keep an eye on that spot because rag pickers or kids might break it or steal or throw it away. And always make sure to keep filling it up with clean water
Shelter – I know it’s bit extra effort but if you have any empty space near to your house then what you can do is build a makeshift shelter with cardboards for them; Google it, you will find many ideas. You can even use useless tyres, fill it with useless clothes to make it cushion type and place it for them
Deworming – it’s necessary for all the dogs. Just like how we used to get worms and then our mothers have provided medicines to kill them; same way, deworming is good for them too. Nowadays there are many brands launched and you may find cheaper alternative too. Deworming tablets are given based on dogs weight; hence your best guess will work in this situation. So 1 tablet per 10 kg body weight. Also, it needs to be done every 3 months. You may get in touch with any NGO too, who do this kind of work for free
Neuter/ Sterilize – this is one of the most important step. Any female dog conceives twice a year. She may give birth to puppies ranging from 1 to 10. Imagine what it does to them, mentally and physically, where they don’t even get the basic medical treatment. On top of that, hardly 1 or 2 puppies survive at the end. Moreover, many people hit and kick such mothers so as to they don’t give birth near to their house. How horrible!! So please neuter/ spay/ sterilize them. Again, it’s better to contact any NGO for the same. You may or may not have to shell out some money but I am sure being a dog lover, you would not mind that
Collars – this is required because of below reasons
Glowing collars shine at night and thus they can stay safe from any accidents
When you are deworming them, you can write the date on the collar with a marker do that you will know whose deworming is pending when
Also you can put a tag on the collar with your name and number so that just in case dog wanders off to another place because of firecracker noise (example), then any dog lover would be able to contact you and leave the dog back in his or her territory
On the tag you can also mention dog’s name if you have named them
You can also mention if the dog is neutered/ spayed/ sterilized on it. Generally municipality people take the dogs for such purpose but if they have the collar on them, then they won’t take them away
If somehow dog meets with an accident, reporter at the spot will inform you about it so that you don’t worry about the pup
Sometimes dogs do get in fight or ruthless stone hearted people beat them without any reason, in such cases it’s better to keep NGO or rescuers number handy
Vaccination – this is again an important part. Dogs get yearly vaccination so that they can be prevented from deadly diseases like rabies, parvo, canin distemper. Not all the dogs are rabid dogs but one cannot be sure who might get infected. Also, neighborhood always complain dogs will bite, they are threat to us and bla bla, then you can show them the vaccination records and poor innocent pups can stay in the area without any trouble
Ticks, fleas, mites spray – I am sure you have seen them, itching themselves endlessly. This is because of fleas, mites, lice and ticks; these creatures feast on dogs body; they make a nest and breed endlessly and sucks blood from the poor dogs body. You can spray them with one of the good anti tick sprays periodically to keep them itch free
