I came home to one of my pygmy corys spinning while swimming, when he’s not moving he seems to lay randomly on his stomach back or side. Anyone seen this before? They were introduced to the tank yesterday and none of the other corys are doing this.

I assumed something along those lines. Debating whether or not to pull him now before he dies and inevitably rots as he’ll be too small to find. Probably not a swim bladder problem. Swim bladder issues do result in swimming differently, but its still usually swimming at a normal pace. That looks like internal parasite. Usually a common sign of some internal parasites is swimming erratically and with seemingly no control.

I’d yank him now. Rather then later as someone said it could be possibly swim bladder but could also possibly be parasites. Little update, I removed him and placed him in a betta cup as I dont have a quarantine tank. Oddly enough he seems to be swimming fine in the cup. No clue whats up.

Probably was swim bladder. It is fatal and they go quick as it affects their breathing. Sadly people aren’t sure why it suddenly happens, so can’t give any advise on how to avoid it in the future. Basically just down to luck. I have them too in my Tanganyika tank….not suitable for a community tank at all. I am lucky to a have a breeding pair, usually the males kill the females at some point. Can be aggressive.

Okay this is on my son’s Christmas list for his 55 gal tank which now has a cheap HOB filter. Would like reviews on this filter and also was wondering if everything comes with this for it to be set up or if additional products need to be bought?

This is the first time I have seen such a thing! What is this strange growth on my fishโ€™s eye? Iโ€™ve noticed this about a day ago and have been doing daily water changes since. I feel like a very bad fish owner for not knowing what to do and Iโ€™m also freaking out right now because I donโ€™t know if this is deadly or not.

i my self am a former fish farmer for koi and gold fish i used dylox 80 but some areas not legal you can look up what is custom for your area. Remove them by hand using tweezers, grip as close to the wound as you can.
Potassium Permanganate(PP) dip at 100mg/ 2.5 gallons of water. …Transfer fish to clean and add fresh water. If you decide to treat the entire tank, add 2 mg of potassium permanganate to every liter of aquarium water.

in your case your worm looks like its at larve stage you may have to wait till it hatches however u may be able to remove it now check. Is it a betta? It maybe the scales growing over the eye which can be common for some types….if so it will go blind but can still have a good long life.

Seriously though you need more camels then males. If not the males will kill the female through harassment… think only girl in a high school full of teenage boys…but they are all fish. They just have babies!! I have 3 females, probably 10 males (probably not the correct way to do things) but we have had 3 batches of fry in the past month. Have only had fish in the aquarium for about 3 months. Surprisingly I havenโ€™t moved any of the fry to a separate tank and a lot has survived. I gauge this bc I had 2 yellow fry and a bunch of gray and the 2 yellow are still here a month later. Excited to see what colors we get since we have totally different colored and species of males!

The biggest advice is to move the adults away from the fry as soon as possible. My guppies breed just fine, I just don’t separate and the fry are usually eaten very soon after birth. Guppy fry are not smart at hiding like platy fry, apparently.

So water temp doesnโ€™t matter? I can stick them together with theses fish? Iโ€™ll get a net when they have babies. Is it better to buy like 10 babies together or should I get 10 adults? Or can I mix adults and babies? Can I breed different Colors together or should I stick to the same guppy type? How many can live together?

I use java moss pushed down as low as possible in the tank, the adults will swim above it while the babies will swim in it until they grow large enough to not be eaten. I feed my fry super crushed up flake foods, I use 4 different brands and 1 is always vegetable only. They dont grow super super fast but they still double in size every week so far. Iโ€™d use a dark sand on the bottom in a thin layer or bare to see the fry better. Iโ€™m in no way an expert but I have larger batches of about 30 or so fry every time that survive. Iโ€™ve been reduced to using all but the very best of every batch as feeders for my bichir because I just have too many.
