Creme Puff (38 years and 3 days)
Guinness World Records lists Creme Puff, a tabby mix, as the oldest cat ever to live. She was owned by Jake Perry of Austin, Texas. Creme Puff who was born on 3 August 1967 and lived until 6 August 2005 – an amazing 38 years and 3 days! Jake Perry was also the owner of Grandpa Rex Allen, the previous holder. The two oldest cats ever recorded, Creme Puff (38 years) and Grandpa Rex Allen (34 years), were both owned by one Mr Jake. He believed the key to their longevity to be a diet of dry cat food plus broccoli, eggs, turkey bacon, coffee with cream and red wine.
Baby (38 years)
1970 – March 2008
In 1970, Al Palusky and his mother, Mabel, rescued a black domestic shorthair kitten, Baby, from a trash can where children had thrown it with firecrackers. Despite 37 years of his age, Baby was active, till March 2008 enjoyed playing fetch, and swat flies. He ate regular cat food, table scraps, and loved grass. Baby was never been outside, preventing him from picking up diseases, and only left the house once to see the vet. He lived with Palusky and his wife, Mary, who was initially scared of cats but later fond of Baby. Baby disliked other pets and used to have plenty of exercise going to his dish and litter in the basement.
Puss (36 years and 1 day)
28 November 1903 – 29 November 1939
The 1990 edition of theGuinness Book of World Records listed Puss as the oldest cat ever recorded. The tabby was owned by Mrs Holway of Devon, and died the day after his 36th birthday.
Other than the identity of the cat’s owner – a Miss T Holway – very little has been recorded about Puss, other than a short entry in the 1990 edition of the Guinness Book of Records.
Ma (34 years and 5 months)
May-June 1923 – 5 November 1957
In the same edition, Guinness features Ma, a female tabby owned by Mrs Alice, also of Devon. Another domestic tabby (there seems to be a bit of a pattern here!), Ma lived for 34 years and five months, ultimately passed away in November 1957.
Ma’s age was recorded in an entry in the South Devon Journal, describing her as “deaf and rather blind and her front paws have been disfigured by a rabbit trap”. Didn’t seem to hold her back though!
Granpa Rex Allen (34 years, 2 months)
Also owned by Jake Perry, Granpa Rex lived to the age of 34. Perry claims that the cat’s diet was the secret to its long life: eggs, broccoli, bacon and coffee with cream. It’s another entry in the list for Jake Perry from Texas. While Creme Puff is generally regarded as the oldest cat to ever live, the first one of Perry’s cats to ever break the world record was Granpa Rexs Allen. Part Sphynx, part Devon Rex, lived from 1964 to 1998. According to Jake, Creme Puff and Granpa Rex is no fluke; thanks to the unique diet and lifestyle his cats have, he claims that a number of them have lived to well beyond 30 years of age.
