Keeping Rabbits and Small Pets Calm During Fireworks | Pet Calming Tips | Bonfire Night |
Fireworks may be fun for some, but no fun for pet owners and their pets. To help you get prepared, here are some top tips to help distract your rabbits for a calmer bonfire night and beyond:
• If possible, bring your outdoor rabbits indoors. Make sure the room isn’t too warm and the heating is off in that room as your rabbit will be used to the outdoor temperatures. Also, close any blinds or curtains.
• If bringing your rabbits indoors isn’t an option, cover any shed windows and make sure they aren’t left out in their outdoor run.
• Make sure they have lots of places to hide like hidey houses, tunnels or even get crafty with a cardboard box!
• Providing lots of enrichment toys and activities will help to distract your rabbits. You can make DIY toys using cardboard, filling them with hay and their evening nuggets or fill forage boxes with hay and healthy tasty treats. • Popping on the TV or the radio for quiet background noise can help block out some of the sounds. Classic FM has an evening of classical music for pets on the 4th and 5th of November from 5 p.m.
• Remember to regularly check on your rabbits, being with them as much as you can will also help to comfort them if they do become scared.
