Zindoga Gives Timisa a Little Too Much Attention | & Quality Time with Baby Elephant, Khanyisa

The elephants in our rescued herd are on contraception, as it is against local legislation in South Africa to allow breeding in animals that are in the care of humans, and so Zindoga does not enter musth — a time of intense testosterone-fueled sexual activity in elephants. But still that drive to mount appears from time to time. And Timisa is often the unfortunate recipient. The older bulls in the herd in this case try to chase Zindoga away and help to protect Timisa and maintain herd harmony.

Spend some time with little Khanyisa as she explores the ground, digging for roots and comes in for a greeting and a rumble with Adine.
