How To Take Better Photos Of Your Dog With Your Smartphone

If you have a dog, there is a good chance your phone is full of pictures of them. These are priceless moments capturing their personality that we cherish forever. You can follow a few simple tips to get better photos of your dog with your smartphone.

Tip #1: Get Low
Getting down on the same level as the dog will produce a more flattering angle of them. You also gain the advantage of creating greater distance between your subject and the background, which provides better separation between your dog and the background. This will also help your photos stand out because the angle will differ from most other photographs.

Tip #2: Use Portrait Mode
Most modern smartphones include a portrait mode. This mode mimics the shallow depth of field that professional photographers get with expensive large-aperture prime lenses. When you activate portrait mode, you’ll notice that the background behind your dog becomes blurred or softened. This helps your dog stand out from the background, drawing focus to their cute face.

Tip #3: Edit Your Photos
A little editing will go a long way to improving your photos and making them stand out from the pack. The easiest way is to use the default photos app on your phone and apply one of the built-in filters. If you want to go further, you can manually edit your photo to make it look how you want. Once you get comfortable with editing you may want to use a third-party app like Adobe Lightroom Mobile.
